Okay guys, I have run into a DPMS MOD:A-15 serial number SN:2xx. Is this one of the first 200 DPMS made AR's? It appears to be of the cast variety, are these cast lowers any good?
What is this DPMS lower, with JP internals worth today with the sliding downward pre-ban market? Thanks for the replies. Jeff Ya know, on a second look I'm not so shure this insn't a forged lower. The last cast DPMS I looked at was waay rougher, and had raised identification markings. This ones are depressed markings.
How can I be shure which?

I am going to look at a 'preban' DPMS LR-308 that i have an opportunity to buy. Comes with 4 'preban' 19 round mags, according to the seller. DPMS LR-308 with a 4 digit serial number (42XX) and no K at end.
According to what I found was sold as a complete rifle by DPMS, I see conflicting info about them building rifles with non-sequencial serial numbers and just the serial does not tell if preban you have to contact them. Which just did, but it takes 6 weeks to hear back. I also saw many listings 4 digit DPMS preban rifle on the common sites for buying/selling. Do you think this is a preban rifle? Have you heard of preban 19 round mags?
If so any info would be appreciated. What do you think is a fair price for it? He is asking $1500. A shop near me offered me a matched set upper/lower for $1700 but his prices are high usually.
He did send me a couple pictures and rifle looks nice and clean but is used. Flat top, carbine length quad rail, standard FSB and adjustable rear sights (older style), bayo lug, flash hider (not pinned) and 6 position collapsible stock. Its being sold by an FFL and is being held for me to go (95% likely) buy it tonight unless something is amiss with it.
I dont know about it being cast. Here's some pics to help you tell. Here's a forged receiver. Here's the same view.
Only for a cast receiver. Here's a forged receiver. But for cast receiver. See the difference in the mag release 'fence'? Hope this helps you out.
As for whether its a good price. If it is truly PRE BAN. And not post ban.
And it has not seen much use. And is in great shape. Then thats not a bad price. Was DPMS even making civilian AR-15 rifles in 1993? I dont recall hearing of them until a few years ago. So I would make SURE he can prove its a pre ban. Even if the DPMS receiver is marked 'US property'.
It doesn't make it a pre ban. As new receivers are coming out with those markings. They had an over run for a contract.
I bought one 6 months ago. Brand new, thus marked.
Hope this helps! Was this receiver assembled as a rifle prior to the AW ban?
Dpms Serial Number Manufacture Date
Even if a receiver was made before the ban, if it was not part of a complete pre-ban rifle it can NOT be assembled into a pre-ban configuration legally. I heard that same thing. Thanks for answering my question before i asked B of course my next question to that would be how would they know that I'm not buying it as a complete lower?? And i just go off the guy selling it to me??
I'm not try to break any laws I'm just asking?? I'm just gonna get a post ban lower and go with that.this is too close for me to take a vac. In club fed.lol plus i hope we will not have to worry about this after sept. Thanks fellas for all your replies Chris Edited February 19, 2004 by DmULibRoles. 150 Bucks for a Preban receiver is a great price.
Most stripped Preban lowers I have seen have gone for no less than 600 dollars. If it is indeed a preban, and I have two DPMS Prebans.both low 2000 serial numbers, then I would go ahead and get it. I really hope this Assault Weapons Ban ends this September, then we can do away with all this nonsense. And if you arent interested in purchacing that lower, let your friend know that I might want it. I could always build me another M4:) Happy shooting Jeff.
